A comprehensive solution for a long term problem
Challenge
Water in a crawl space is rarely a one time occurrence. But for a Newfane homeowner, a wet crawl space had become normal part of his life. For the entire time he had been living in the house, the crawl space was wet and had water coming through the floor. The constant moisture led to another problem: mold. He had a very unhealthy environment below his home and decided it was time to do something about it. He called Frank's and scheduled a free, no obligation estimate.
Solution
The answer to these challenges was a 4 part solution: interior drainage installation, encapsulation, sump pump installation, and dehumidification.
A trench was dug around the perimeter of the basement and interior drainage was placed. A 1/3 horsepower sump pump and a battery back up pump were also installed and connected to the drainage system. Now any water in the crawl space will flow into the drainage system, to the sump pumps, and be pumped up and out of the crawl space and away from the house.
Next was to stop water seeping in through the floors and walls. Our patented CleanSpace liner was placed across the walls, ceiling, and floor of the crawl space. CleanSpace is a very heavy antimicrobial plastic that won't tear or grow mold. The crawl space is now a closed environment that will not allow moisture or pests into the house.
The last part of the solution was to remove the excess moisture from the air. A SaniDry dehumidifier was installed to dry the air in the crawl space. It is hooked up to the sump pump system so it will never need to be emptied.
Now for the first time since moving in, this homeowner can actually get some use out of his crawl space.
